Dear Irish Mission,
“All good things must come to an end” (someone said), So I guess this is it.
Here we go!!!! We are finally letting ourselves think of home because we must exit our flat, send things home and throw away our worn out clothing, etc. I must say we get very excited to be with all our little families. We have to find a new home for many things that we have accumulated. It is hard but exciting to be coming home. We leave from Edinburgh on the morning of the 27th of February. It is about a ten-hour flight from London to Dallas, Texas where we will anxiously wait for four hours to fly to SLC. We are not looking forward to the long flight. We know you have all been there, pray for us.
We have seen positive changes in the Elgin branch here since Christmas. We don’t know if we can lay claim to any of the changes but we hope they just know how much we love them and how much their Heavenly Father loves them. They are not alone up here in this little struggling branch. We is taking a list home with us to see if we can help from home being near the center of the Church.
Our hearts go back to Ireland and the people we love and miss. It is very difficult knowing you won’t see many of them again in this life. Bet all of you know exactly what we are talking about. One of the things we are most excited about is being able to go the temple when we return. Gee, I wonder which one we should go to first. We are so spoiled, all of us. What blessings we have that we take for granted. We hope we have changed and stay changed.
We have been able to work on genealogy a little bit while here in Scotland. Jayne’s great-grandfather was Alexander Wright. He and Elder Samuel Mulliner were the first missionaries sent to Scotland. Both were born and raised in Scotland, Samuel in the Glasgow area and Alexander in Marnoch. Marnoch is a farming area about a half hours drive from Elgin. Jayne has his journal and he writes about walking all over the wee villages here. We were able to “walk in his footsteps”. We were able to find the farmstead and the old Marnoch Kirk where he was born and christened. What an experience!
We are being helped by a “circle of family” that desires us to find the new information. We visit near the area like we should, and then look for sources and are finding them in the graveyards, for goodness sakes. This is the most exciting experience. Hope we can locate all that we are supposed to find here. Please remember us in your prayers.
We received permission to go to the Isle of Skye last week and it was most wonderful. It reminded us so much of Ireland and we found closure there. So grateful we were able to go.
Thank you for your friendship, we truly love each one of you and this will be an experience we will always treasure.
We will see you very soon. Thank your for all your support.
See ya when we see ya!!!!!! (1-801-943-6422 SLC 7184 So. 2780 East, Cottonwood Heights, Utah, 84121)
